About
JoAnn:
I have been a nanny for seven years working with age groups from infant to 8 yrs. old. Previously I was also an Elementary Special Ed. Para Professional for 5 yrs. and also worked one year as a teacher's assistant for Preschool Readiness Preschool Program and ECFE Program. I also took care of children before and after school in a school run daycare. Total I have over 25 yrs. working with children including my own three children who are now grown. I have always been involved in community volunteering with my family and with my church. I taught preschool religion classes for 16 yrs. I am very patient, caring, reliable, fun, love to do craft and art projects with the children or take them on outings to parks, museums, etc. to enrich their learning. I have excellent references and would make an excellent role model for your children. I love taking care of children. Would love to hear from your family!
JoAnn's childcare philosophy:
My childcare style is to have fun enriching activities to help the children succeed in their development. My discipline is always positive discipline, such as redirecting, taking a break, 1,2,3, and natural consequences. I think that older children should have some responsibilities and house chores to make them feel a part of the family and to teach them self esteem. I like to reward children for a job well done.

Tell us your experience working with newborns and infants. What did you find most
challenging?
What did you find most rewarding?
I have had seven years nanny experience working with newborns, infants, and twins, plus raising three children of my own. Lots of moms are going back to cloth diapers so I have experience with this. I guess the most challenging is when a baby is crying. Once I get to know the baby better I can decipher by it's crying what it wants or at least walk thru the different possibilities to figure out what the problem is. I am familiar with Shaken Baby Syndrome and would never loose my patience with a crying baby. I have also taught baby signing to help communication when their words have not developed yet. The parents and I found this most rewarding because then everyone knew what the children wanted.
