About
Pamela:
I am 28, do not smoke, drink or use drugs. I love children, have babysat since I was in middle school, have tutored since high school, and have live-in nanny experience. I read in my time off, and love to foster a love of reading and learning in children. Coming from a background that did not emphasize exercise in children, I understand the need, and try to make things fun, but make sure that lots of movement is involved.
I took the INA Basic Nanny Skills test and passed with a 97.5%.

Pamela's childcare philosophy:
Using this site, I found a job with a wonderful family; unfortunately it ended due to schedule changes. I have worked with families that have a very strict schedule, families that had no schedule at all, and families in the middle. I find that some flexibility as to when things happen fits best with me, though I can do things any way the parents wish. My default punishment if the parents do not specify is a time-out in a corner, no moving or talking, duration of the child's age plus one (children old enough to understand) or redirection for infants/toddlers. I do lots of games and movements, all geared to work on fine and gross motor and basic academic skills. Reading is a priority.

Tell us your experience working with newborns and infants. What did you find most
challenging?
What did you find most rewarding?
Infants and toddlers view the world with wonder and curiosity unless they are taught to fear it. I love answering the endless "whys" in ways that toddlers understand and can ask more questions. Interaction with infants may seem one-sided at times, but every movement, every sound, every touch expands the mind. Sleep is very important with small children, but sometimes a child doesn't want to sleep. The most frustrating thing for me in the past was trying to get a toddler to sleep that was up at least 4 hours past the normal bedtime. She was exhausted, and by the time she fell asleep, I was too.
