In the many years I\u2019ve been in the nanny business I\u2019ve heard so many times from families that didn\u2019t use a nanny agency say they\u2019ve done a nanny background check <\/a>as if that means they\u2019ve screened the nanny.\u00a0 I\u2019ve felt they feel like they\u2019ve done what was really necessary to vet their new hire.\u00a0 My guess is that what underlies this is the anxiety of hiring a nanny that they\u2019re bringing into their home to care for their children without really knowing how to screen a nanny.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not sure why some families don\u2019t do everything necessary to assure themselves that they\u2019ve really checked their new nanny out.\u00a0 Recently a nanny told me that she actually hands out nanny hiring materials to families that are interested in her from online nanny sites.\u00a0 My guess is that harried, busy families simply don\u2019t have the time and knowledge to really screen a nanny fully, so they hang their hat on a nanny background check and call it a day.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what nanny background checks<\/a> can do.\u00a0 They can match up the name with the SSN, they can do a nationwide background check, and they can do county criminal checks and provide you with a driving report.\u00a0 All together these checks are as good as it gets in an imperfect world to avoid hiring a nanny with a criminal record or DUI.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what nanny background checks can\u2019t do. \u00a0They can\u2019t help prevent you from hiring a complete irresponsible jerk!\u00a0 They won\u2019t help you hire a loving, caring engaged person to take care of your children.\u00a0 They can\u2019t even prevent you from hiring someone who\u2019s stolen from other families, but hasn\u2019t been caught yet.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
