\"\"<\/a>Recently I had a chance to speak with Kristin Lancione, star of ABC Family\u2019s Beverly Hills Nannies. With my background as an INA Credentialed Nanny with more than 15 years of professional nanny experience, I went into the interview unsure of how it would go or what to expect. Was she the real deal or not? A minute into the conversation we connected and swapped nanny stories like old friends, reaffirming what I\u2019ve always known to be true: No one understands the daily joys and struggles of being a nanny like another nanny.<\/em><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a snip-it of our conversation:<\/em><\/p>\n

eNannySource:\u00a0 Can you tell us a little about your nanny experience?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kristin: <\/strong>\u00a0Sure. I\u2019ve been a nanny for 8 years and was with one family for 6 years. Honestly, I don\u2019t have any specialized training or education, I just kind of fell into being a nanny and loved the families I worked for. \u00a0Everything I\u2019ve learned has been hands-on.<\/p>\n

eNannySource: How have you found your work? Have you used an online site? An agency?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kristin: <\/strong>I\u2019ve been really blessed and have never had to book a job through an agency or online site. I\u2019ve always found my work through word of mouth.<\/p>\n

eNannySource: What are the top 5 things that make a good nanny?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kristin:<\/strong> Gosh, there are so many things. \u00a0<\/strong>In addition of having a love for kids, I think respect for yourself, respect for your work family, integrity, honesty and being a real person are important.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

eNannySource: What’s your definition of a nanny?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kristin: <\/strong>There are so many different definitions of a nanny in every town. To me, it\u2019s someone who is part of the family. You know the things that need to be done and you do them. I\u2019ve never viewed working as a nanny as being a job.\u00a0 To me it means giving things to everyone else and understanding your role.<\/p>\n

eNannySource: You seem to be setting up an agency on the show.\u00a0 Are you doing this in real life?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kristin: \u00a0<\/strong>Yes! I am setting up an agency.<\/p>\n

eNannySource: What do you think makes a good agency?
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kristin: <\/strong>I think it\u2019s important to understand and meet the client\u2019s needs.\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019ve also learned it is best not to do friends a favor!<\/p>\n

eNannySource: What about background screening?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kristin: <\/strong>In California, agencies have to use TrustLine, so we do that. Also, we do drug tests. If you can\u2019t pass a drug test, you have something wrong.<\/p>\n

eNannySource: So what makes a good match?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kristin: <\/strong>Chemistry! I can place the best nanny with a family, but it\u2019s all about chemistry.<\/p>\n

eNannySource: How real life is Beverly Hills Nannies?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kristin: <\/strong>It\u2019s the most real that you can get. While of course it\u2019s edited, they are doing a real good job portraying our real lives.<\/p>\n

eNannySource: So would Marika asking Justin to rub her feet be normal in Beverly Hills?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kristin: <\/strong>No! I would have laughed in her face!<\/p>\n

\u00a0eNannySource: What do you say to real-life career nannies who question if you’re a “real nanny\u201d?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kristin:<\/strong> I have worked with kids for 8 years. \u00a0It doesn\u2019t matter what you call me. \u00a0I am not a career nanny, though. \u00a0I won\u2019t be doing this for the rest of my life.<\/p>\n

eNannySource: What do you say to someone who was considering becoming a nanny?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kristin: <\/strong>If you are a nanny or if you want to be a nanny, it\u2019s not really something to think about. You just know. Just make sure the kids needs come first. Don\u2019t do it for the lifestyle and don\u2019t do it for the perks. Do it because you genuinely love kids.<\/p>\n
