Frequently Asked Questions
When should I order a nanny background check?
Parents should order a nanny background check as part of their pre-employment screening. Once a family finds a nanny they wish to hire and a job offer is made and accepted, it is time to order a background check. The nanny should be made aware that the offer of employment is contingent on the results of their complete background screening.
How long does a background check take?
Depending on your order, after authorization is complete you should receive your report within five business days. If you need results before that time, please contact customer service.
Does the nanny need to know we are doing a background check?
In order for a background check to be done, the nanny must give consent. If a nanny refuses to consent to a background check, it could be a red flag. Our nanny background checks are fully FCRA compliant and since our process is online, there are no forms for you or the nanny to sign and return to us.
Once you have completed your order, your candidate will be sent a link to our Secure Online Authorization Form where they will enter their personal information such as SSN, Date of Birth, Driver’s License and prior addresses. If your candidate does not have a SSN, we can still run vital reports. Please contact our customer support at info@enannysource.com for additional information.
What if my nanny does not have a Social Security Number (SSN)?
The SSN is used for address history and additional name verification. It has no effect on criminal reports, which use name and date of birth only. Your candidate may provide an ITIN (Tax ID Number) or enter all zeroes on the authorization.
What should I consider when choosing a nanny background check?
Parents should not rely solely on database background checks. These Basic database checks provide results that may be incomplete or outdated. While these checks can be a good preliminary screening tool, they should only be used in conjunction with county court record checks, which are the gold standard in background screening.
The Nationwide database check should be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, county court record checks. These nationwide database searches may not include all states and counties and the information may not be up to date. If a possible record is found on a nationwide database check, further research should be done at the county courthouse. Bargain priced nanny background checks may not be thorough enough to portray an accurate picture of the nanny's history. Parents should utilize the most comprehensive checks available to ensure that they have the information needed to make an educated and informed hiring decision.
It is also important to note that the length of reporting time can vary from state to state. Some states may have limitations or restrictions on how far back certain records may be reported.
What types of additional screening can I do on my own?
Additional screening measures may include, but are not limited to, verifying the identity of the candidate by examining the candidate’s identification documents to ensure that the information provided on the background report order matches, checking a candidate’s references, evaluating a candidate’s work history, conducting an internet search, verifying the candidate’s education, conducting a drug screening and completing an in-depth, in-person interview.
What if my nanny or I have a dispute with regard to the results of the report?
If you or your nanny have a dispute with the information provided in the final report, please send an email to info@enannysource.com with a copy of the report, if possible, and what item is being disputed. Please note that disputes may require reinvestigations, which could result in additional fees.
